Future
Beananging Kwuurt Institute has plans to continue to upgrade our site and extend our community programs into the future.
We plan to repair some of our historical buildings, re-establish the native vegetation on the property, install a new bore and reticulation to water the gardens, and fence the land.
We have plans to install a community vegetable garden, which will supplement the fresh food we have available to distribute under our Food Rescue program.
BKI want to rebirth the site as an eco and cultural centre. We want to create a cultural landscape, reflecting Aboriginal land use of the Swan Coastal Plain and traditional food and medicinal plants. We want it to be a kind of cultural museum landscape, where Aboriginal culture can be shared with the wider community.
We also want to tell the historical story of the site where many Aboriginal children lived, some from the Stolen Generation. The land is currently weed infested and buildings quite run down, but salvageable. Overall, it has great potential and it has great significance to many WA Aboriginal folk who passed through the place. One can feel a Spirit there.
